DEAN GREETING
The Budapest Business School, Faculty of Commerce, Catering and Tourism (BGF KVIK) traces its history back to the beginning of commercial education in Hungary, being the legal successor and intellectual inheritor of the Academy of Commerce of Pest, established in 1857 and having a significant status in the history of education.
During the last decades it continued to build its renewing values: the widening and modernizing of course programmes are in accordandande with the objectives of education development and all these contributed to the professional recognition of the faculty.
As a result our faculty is funtioning today as a part of a college, which has the most students in Hungary.
Our faculty has a great number of applicants every year.
The educational philosophy of the college is dominated by training professionals, having of high level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, with the ability of communication in foreign languages and implementing their knowledge in the practice, by forming their intellectual characteristics and who obtain after finishing their studies a worldwide accepted diploma.
This effort of our faculty is based upon the activity of well-known teachers, professionals from Hungary and abroad.
The results of investigations and entrance examinations prove that the choise of value was proper: the acknowledgement of the faculty is on both employer[*]s and students[*] side permanent high.
The accelaration of the development of economy, information technology and communication, social evolution, the changing of professional knowledge, skills and abilities, expectations of students and employers are setting more and more challenges for the faculty.
The future will be determined mostly by the answers given to these questions:
Knowledge, openness, renewing professional skills of our teachers, researchers and staff, and their research and scientific publications related to teaching ensure, that the educational standard of our college meets the increasing requirements of our age.
The interested young people and adults can choose from a continuously widening educational offer, thus BSc full-time teaching in foreign languages (at present German and English), as well as the Centre of Distance Learning and of Post-Graduate Programmes supports the working adults in widening their professional skills and obtaining a degree. Our post-secondary programmes have also a significant number of students.
Our traditions are remarkable in area of training of teachers working in secondary vocational education as well: as a result of a training, launched in the 70[*]s most of the teachers working in the secondary vocational education in Hungary have taken their degree in our college. The earlier teaching programme has been completed with an accredited training of vocational teachers specialized in commerce.
In the extensive network of relations of the faculty the employers, professional organisations, the Hungarian educational institutes, renowned professionals, researches and conferences contribute to filling up the professional training with real contents.
The extensive network of internatinal relations of our faculty enables a comparable level of education and make possible to complete an industrial placement period for our students in several countries.
Our faculty established also the necessary infrastructural background: the traning cabinets, training restaurant and pub, libraries, the students[*] hostel and scientific student circle with their services help our students to attain theoretical and practical skills.
The communal life of students and teachers has also long traditions at the faculty; Faculty[*]s Days, collective excursions, the activity of local members of the Student Union and AIEISEC contribute to create and keep up the "feeling of familiarity" both for the students and teachers.
